The Arkansas Heart Hospital specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease, with comprehensive inpatient and outpatient cardiac care. The Emergency Center is a 24-hour emergency room serving patients with any medical need. Arkansas Heart Hospital is the first nonteaching facility in the nation and 12th in the world to offer the cardiovascular MRI system. This noninvasive outpatient procedure allows cardiologists to view three-dimensional images of the heart and vascular system to diagnose coronary artery and vascular diseases as well as judge the severity of a heart attack.

The state's largest health care network, Baptist Health consists of more than 80 facilities including major medical centers, family clinics and therapy and wellness centers. The largest institution under the Baptist Health banner is Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock, with a 787-bed tertiary-care facility.

Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock is focused on wellness and preventive care, health education and outpatient services. The hospital also has a pain and headache center. The two other hospitals in the system are in Heber Springs and Arkadelphia.

Programs for seniors include the 55Plus program that gives discounts and special offers to members, Instep walking programs, water exercise classes and a geriatric psychiatry unit.

For the past 25 years, the Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute has treated more than 51,000 cancer patients at seven Arkansas locations. The nonprofit organization offers nationally recognized, award-winning care through its state-of-the-art radiation therapy.
Other programs at CARTI include support groups for cancer patients and their families, CancerAnswers luncheons, weekend patient retreats and counseling. With their physician's approval, patients can participate in the Cancer Well-Fit fitness program.

Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System

This health system consists of two medical centers, a nursing home care unit and a domiciliary. The John L. McClellan hospital in Little Rock focuses on acute care, while the Towbin Health Care Center in North Little Rock provides long-term, chronic care. Both facilities offer outpatient clinics. There are also community-based outpatient clinics in Mountain Home, El Dorado and Hot Springs. The respite care program allows for a maximum of two two-week admissions each year. Mobile health screening clinics bring wellness checkups to residents of small towns in the state.

Established in 1888, St. Vincent offers comprehensive health care services including psychiatric programs, cardio-logy, urology and women's services. The system includes St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center, St. Vincent Medical Center North, St. Vincent Doctors Hospital and St. Anthony Health Care Center in Morrilton.

Viva, a program of the St. Vincent Auxiliary, is available to adults ages 55 and older for a lifetime membership fee of $15 for singles and $25 for couples. Benefits include discounts on health screenings, mammograms, room rates and purchases in the gift shop and cafeteria.

The internationally recognized resources at UAMS include University Hospital of Arkansas, Arkansas Cancer Research Center, Harvey and Bernice Jones Eye Institute and CARTI. U.S. News & World Report named UAMS as one of the country's top 100 hospitals in 2001. The magazine also named the Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatrics as the 10th-ranked graduate school in the nation in its 2003 edition of "Best Graduate Schools." The Reynolds Center on Aging sponsors programs throughout the state, and the Reynolds Senior Health Center provides patients with a team of health care professionals including a geriatrician, advanced practical nurse and social worker.
